Gullringens Gymnastik-och Idrottsförening were founded on 4th November 1933. Prior to this in 1931 Gullringens Arbetares Idrottssällskap were formed but the club only lasted two years. Other sports covered in the early years of Gullringens GoIF were bandy, cross-country skiing and boxing. [2] Ice hockey followed later in 1961.[3]
In 1936 the club joined Östergötlands Fotbollförbund. A year later in 1937 the club won the Östgötaserien klass 4 södra and the following year won promotion again this time to klass 2 västra. The additional travelling that this entailed proved disastrous and in August 1939 an extraordinary general meeting was held in which it was suggested that the club would actually close down its football activities. Thankfully the proposal was rejected.[4]
Since their foundation Gullringens GoIF has participated mainly in the middle divisions of the Swedish football league system. The club currently plays in Division 3 Nordöstra Götaland which is the fifth tier of Swedish football. [5] They play their home matches at the Gullemon in Gullringen, the facility having been first opened in 1976 and now has floodlights. [6]
Gullringens GoIF are affiliated to Smålands Fotbollförbund. [7]
